We're seeking a passionate, data-driven Senior Product Engineer in Melbourne to join our team and drive user acquisition, engagement, and retention.
Role Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails) at Bluethumb, you'll work with your product team to identify growth opportunities, experiment with new features, optimise the user journey and work with the CTO to multiply your team. You'll play a vital role in ensuring Bluethumb remains a leader in the online art marketplace.
Responsibilities
- Ability to work directly with the CTO to measurably improve systems and the performance of the Engineering team
- Collaborate to design, develop, and execute growth experiments to enhance user acquisition, retention, and engagement.
- Analyse user data to identify opportunities for conversion rate optimisation.
- Collaborate with product and marketing teams to implement data-driven growth strategies.
- Monitor key performance indicators and provide actionable insights.
- Work closely with designers to craft user-friendly interfaces that enhance engagement.
- Contribute to the development of new features aligned with growth objectives.
- Advocate for a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement within the team.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated 8+ years of experience in engineering with a focus on business growth
- Proficiency in data analysis and A/B testing methodologies.
- Strong understanding of web development (Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and surrounding ecosystem best practices.
- High personal standards for writing well-tested, maintainable, and performant code.
- Familiarity with data analytics tools (Google Analytics, BigQuery, SEM, etc.).
- Creative problem-solving skills and a user-centric mindset.
- Strong collaboration skills for effective cross-functional teamwork.
- Experience with growth frameworks like Lean Startup or Growth Hacking tactics.
- Knowledge of user acquisition channels (SEO, SEM, social media).
- Track record of successfully partnering with product & design to rapidly plan and release experiments that have a net positive impact on the business
- Track record of working on large features and how they mitigated release risks (e.g. feature toggles, %-based rollouts, etc.)
- Track record of suggesting and executing improvements that were backed up by data and analyses (e.g. decreased # of customer support tickets after they saw a trend)
Nice to Have
- Experience in the e-commerce and creative industries.
- Familiarity with Python, SQL or other scripting languages for data analysis.
- Understanding of product management and user experience design principles.
- Track record of designing experiments & analysing user data to identify opportunities for conversion rate optimisation.
